The phrase “Gathering Here as a Clan” is taken from the horizontal plaque at the entrance of the Hehu Ancestral Residence, where the Luo ancestors inscribed this message to signify their settlement and livelihood here, embodying the Hakka lifestyle of clan-based, fortified living. The exhibition is organized into four chapters: “The Origins of the Luo Family,” “Building Prosperity Through Diligence and Frugality,” “Passing on the Values of Benevolence and Righteousness,” and “Spanning the Globe,” which together narrate the history, rise, legacy, and global presence of the Hehu Luo lineage.
Luo Ruifeng, the founding ancestor of the Luo family at Hehu, followed the migration paths of his forefathers, who moved from the Central Plains to Jiangxi, and then to eastern Guangdong. During the Qianlong reign of the Qing dynasty, he relocated from Xingning to Longgang, where the Luo family settled. Over the years, this branch of the Luo clan grew to become a prominent family in the region, known as the "Longgang Luos."
Today, we retell the story of the Hehu Luo family through new methods and enriched historical artifacts. Their family history highlights the unique cohesion of the Hakka people, resonating through different eras with the life experiences of both individuals and the family as a whole.
